Mail agents configuration

Outlook Express

To configure Microsoft Outlook Express to work with Tiny-Mail follow these instructions:

  1. After running the program choose the Tools|Accounts option from the main menu.
  2. After opening the Internet accounts window click the Add button and choose Mail.
  3. After displaying the "Internet connection wizard" window follow the displayed instructions by filling out the displayed name and e-mail address fields - like configuring the program to work without Tiny-Mail.
  4. While entering the POP3 and SMTP server addresses you should enter the IP addres of the computer on which Tiny-Mail is installed. You can learn about that IP address from your local network administrator or by running the WinIpCfg.exe program (it's delivered with Windows 95/98/ME system) on the computer with Tiny-Mail installed and reading the IP addres from the IP Address field. That address should be entered in the POP3 and SMTP servers configuration fields. Enter the username and user password of the account that is configured on the Tiny-Mail server.
  5. In case you would like to change the configuration of an existing mail account you should point an account in the Internet accounts window and then choose the Edit option. A window called Account properties appears. Choose the servers bookmark and change the POP3 and SMTP servers configuration according to the rules given above.
  6. Outlook Express is ready to work with Tiny-Mail.

Netscape Messenger

To configure Netscape Messenger to work with Tiny-Mail do the following:

  1. After running the program choose "Edit" and then the "Preferences" option from the main menu.
  2. In the Mail & Newsgroups category choose the Mail Servers subcategory
  3. If you already have a server address entered in the Incoming Mail Servers frame, choose the Edit option. Otherwise choose Add.
  4. Enter the IP address of the computer on which Tiny-Mail is installed into the Server Name field. If both Tiny-Mail and Netscape Messenger work on the same machine - enter 127.0.0.1.
  5. Choose POP3 Server as Server Type
  6. Enter the name of the local mailbox set during the Tiny-Mail configuration into the User Name field, then click OK
  7. Enter the IP address of the computer with Tiny-Mail installed in the Outgoing Mail Server frame, into the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) server field, or enter "127.0.0.1" if both Tiny-Mail and Netscape Messenger work on the same computer (similar to POP3).
  8. Leave the Outgoing mail server user name field unchanged. Set the Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) or TLS for outgoing messages switch to Never.
  9. Click "OK". Netscape Messenger is ready to work with z Tiny-Mail.

Other programs

To configure any other mail program to work with Tiny-Mail you should carry out the same steps as with a usual configuration. Remember to:

  1. configure the SMTP and POP3 server addresses to the IP addres or the name of the computer on which Tiny-Mail is installed. If both Tiny-Mail and the mail agent work on the same machine, enter "127.0.0.1" both for SMTP and POP3.
  2. enter the same username and password in the mail agent that is configured on the Tiny-Mail server or that name and password you obtained from the Tiny-Mail administrator.
